The impression is that innovation is important for enterprises to become and remain competitive, to move to higher return activities, and to grow and graduate to a larger enterprise status, hence creating new employment and income opportunities.
This is because the business environment in which enterprises practice may mask the effect of the different factors on the innovation of the enterprise.
At the root of this argument is understanding the difference between innovating out of necessity and innovating for monetary gain, pleasure, accomplishment — or even out of a desire to help some abstract population in poverty. Other problems include the brain drainwhich causes educated entrepreneurs and professionals to leave their host country for better opportunities and compensation abroad.
