Eop program

A personalized, highly structured academic support program, it offers admission to the University and provides academic, personal, and social counseling, as well as financial aid advisement. The First-Year Experience: For the last 14 years EOP has actively used the model of front loading services for first-year as a retention strategy; this is a model that has only recently emerged for all college first-year students. Advisors maintain regular contact with professors and also review student performance data throughout the semester. EOP advisors are expected to be retention specialists who have multiple talents in academic advising, the pedagogical practices for effective developmental education and study skills, personal counseling, the promotion of cultural diversity, financial aid and student accounting procedures, facilitating career development and student leadership, modeling decision-making and life skills, making appropriate referrals, and above all, the ability to illuminate how all aspects of the college experience can be interconnected. The campus professionals who run these programs introduce students to international opportunities early on, and provide the customized services they need to take advantage of them. Each student is assigned an academic advisor who they meet with over the course of their time in the program. Student Services: Our student services include academic advisement, personal counseling, career development, study skills instruction, tutoring, financial advisement, and student leadership opportunities. Advisors meet with first-year students on an individual basis three to four times a semester and develop a graduation plan with students during freshman year. If a student does not meet both the academic and economic guidelines, or the campus to which the student is applying does not operate an Educational Opportunity Program, the student will be billed for the fee. Upperclassmen are provided with the opportunity to serve as peer mentors for first-year students. EOP at New Paltz Winner of a Noel-Levitz Retention Excellence Award , SUNY New Paltz's Educational Opportunity Program is an academic program designed for capable students who, because of inadequate financial resources and academic preparation, have not had the same opportunities as other students to realize their academic potential.

Applicants are required to submit an official high school transcript or an official General Equivalency Diploma GED score report. These services, by definition, are to extend above and beyond that which is available to the rest of the student body.

New Paltz has successfully demonstrated how an infrastructure of strategic student support services can help build the pipeline for study abroad among all students.
